In Sunshine and Shadow by Eve Wicks is a beautiful work – lovingly crafted text and photographs, retelling the stories of Lithuanian migrants as they made new homes in post war Brisbane, Australia. The book is a remarkable curated piece of art in itself. Wicks painstakingly has embroidered oral history excerpts, poetry and story, with historical and contemporary images, using parallel text. This book is infused with stories of life – hardship and hope, as told in their own words, keeping the Queensland social history of Lithuanian culture alive.
